Illustration Friday - 'Seperated'

I did this drawing a while ago, it's a sketch for a painting that I got two thirds of the way through but wasn't happy with, so I'll be starting it again at some point! This weeks topic, 'Seperation' seemed appropriate for this piece - the image is called 'I Know You're There', and it's about how we sometimes catch ourselves observing our thoughts and actions, as though we have two separate awareness's.

I'm very interested in this idea at the moment! I'm reading 'The Power of Belief: Essential Tools for an Extraordinary Life' by Ray Dodd, and it's about the chaos that our subconscious beliefs can cause in our lives, and how to recognize them and let go. It's fascinating, I would definitely recommend it!! :)

I mentioned a little while back that I had plans for something that may be of interest to all the lovely stampers that follow this often neglected little blog! ;P Well... here it is!...

I have decided to create a new shop featuring Digistamp designs of my artworks! I loved creating designs for the gorgeous Sugar Nellie, and I was constantly amazed by the creations that sprang up from the talented crafters who use stamps in their work! I know that a few of you stampers out there often like to use designs that are a little more quirky, but they're quite hard to come across, so I thought I'd go ahead and create a more arty range! Clem So Show...

Myself and the beautifully talented Fran Williams were in Bristol last Thursday, and we made a point of visiting Clem So's exhibition! It was great to meet Clem and chat to him about his work - it's impressive enough on screen, click HERE for his site, but is even more so in person. The scale and energy of some of his larger work is breathtaking, whilst his smaller pieces have such a quiet beauty to them... His solo show 'Tracing The Intangible' is at the Centrespace gallery in Bristol and runs until Wednesday, definitely worth catching if you can! ...Thanks for the pic Clem! :P

Hello!! :) Is it too late to say Happy New Year? ... yes, it probably is... :P

Here's a piece that I painted earlier this month for a fund raising auction... I painted it on brown card, which was really nice change! I always struggle with the glaring whiteness of a canvas or board, yet that's where I always start! :S I found that working on a base that already had colour really loosened my approach to the paint!

Also, I've been making lots of new jewellery with some beautiful vintagey silver findings! I will be adding 18 necklaces and 14 rings to my Etsy shop in the next day or two :) Here's a sneaky peek at a few of them! (Click on it and zoom in for a closer look) :

(The artwork that they are resting on is a painting that I'm working on now, but will post as soon as it's complete!)

I'm sooo excited about these new designs available from Santoro! Excuse my awful picture taking skills, it really doesn't do them justice! :P

They are so beautifully printed, with a delicate glittery finish on certain details! They should be available in shops and on Santoro's website soon! Also available right now are these cards and gifts (click on the images to take you directly to the site) :

I am totally in LOVE with how these notebooks are finished, every detail has been thought of, even the inside pages have been embellished with parts of the illustrations! I couldn't be more pleased with what they've done with them, the quality is second to none! :) Thankyouuuu Santoro!! :)

Hey Everyone!! Hope you're all well! :) As usual, due to the fact that I haven't updated my blog for a while this post will probably be quite long!!

First things first, here's my entry for this week's Illustration Friday topic, 'Adrift':

It's a sketch for a piece I'm working on for a small exhibition of works that will be up in Swansea Metropolitan in March. :)

Talking of exhibitions, I was lucky enough to be involved in the awesome 'Advent' show in Bristol just before Christmas!

Ok, two more things then I'm done! First of all, I was soooooooo excited this month to join the AMAZING PFATT Marketplace!!

I have always loved the creations on there! Here was my first listing:

And finally, I have been making lots and lots of new jewellery to add to my Etsy shop, which has been closed for a while. I'll be uploading it all on Friday and Saturday - there's almost 30 pieces so it will take a good while to get them all listed! I have fallen in love with my soldering iron lately, so there are lots of lovely shiny silver soldered pendants! I also have an ever growing stash of vintage buttons, so I thought as a nice change from just the artwork jewellery, I'd make some ornate brass and button pieces too! Here's a sneaky peek!:

My apologies (as usual!!) for neglecting my blog for a while! I've been busy with a few Illustration projects lately, so I haven't had much time for my personal work. But thankfully, I'm getting back on the case now! :p

This is a new painting entitled 'Tuesdays Child' that is currently on display in the Monkey Cafe in Swansea. It measures 28 x 12ins, and it's Acrylic on canvas. It sold before the exhibition went up, to the lovely lady who owns the cafe, so I was really pleased about that! I haven't painted on canvas for a while, I'd forgotten how nice it is! She's available as a print in my Etsy shop.

This is a pencil artwork on painted board that I've recently donated to an art auction. You can check out the details of the fundraising here. I got chatting to Mike through Facebook because he runs an online gallery called Art-e l - AMAZING work on there!!

It's entitled 'Gifted'. I think, including the frame, it measures around 12 x 12ins (I forgot to measure it before I sent it off! :P ) Her wings have an iridescent shimmer on them (you can just about see it in the pics!) She's also available as a hand embellished print in my Etsy shop, with the same shimmery wings as in the original. :)
I'll post the full details of the auction once they are confirmed.

I've also been making some custom jewellery. This is a sterling silver and glass pendant that I made for a very lovely friend of mine! I'm definitely going to make some brass and silvertone versions of these for my Etsy shop! But of course, If anyone is interested in the sterling version, just let me know and I'd be happy to create one for you! :)

Another silver and glass custom necklace, created as a birthday gift for a friends wife. The little initial bead was soo cute! :P

And this was a custom brass dragonfly necklace, created as an anniversary gift, also for the same friends good lady wife! ;)

Finally, this is a pendant design I'll be adding to my shop soon, along with some other new jewllery that I'm making (inc various pendants in silver and brass, custom rings, and cuff bracelets!)

I've also moved all my prints from my Carbonmade shop, over to Etsy. It felt weird having them spread over two shops, and Carbonmade felt really cold and impersonal compared to the lovely, friendly Etsy!!

To finish off this epic post(!), this is a sketch that is next on my list to work up into a final artwork:
I've had this pretty huge (28 x 24ins) and gorgeous frame for ages, and I've been slightly intimidated by it! Haha! But I think this is the piece that I'm going to paint for it! Right after I've finished painting...

...this! I'm finishing this piece over the next three days, for entry into an open exhibition in London. The deadline is Tuesday, so I'm cutting it fine!! Nothing unusual there though! :D This is my prep drawing, the final painting will be on a wooden art board measuring 12 x 16ins. I'll post a pic when it's done! x

Welcome to my new blog!! :) I'll be leaving my previous blog as it is, so If you want to visit there to see past artwork then you can find the link button in my sidebar!

So, to kickstart this new blog I thought I'd post the images of the AIR (Artist in Residence) Exhibition that I promised! The exhibition went really well, there were around 10 of us showing work and it we're all from different disciplines within the Universtity, so it was really fascinating to see it all together! My photos aren't the most extensive, I meant to take some pictures on the opening night, but I forgot my camera!!! So I only have the pics of my bit which I took when I'd finished putting it all up.

It's quite a cold space to exhibit in, so to add a bit of warmth I painted gold leaves behind the frames, and I also made loads of paper flowers from vintage dictionary pages, with little chain drops. I nearly did myself a mischief trying to get everything done in time though!! I was still adding the finishing touches to the last piece on the morning of the exhibition!! I've never been the most organised person when it comes to time management... (I can just imagine my mum sporting her 'What an understatement!!' face as she reads this!!) But it all came together in the end! :D I'm totally hooked on the ornate frames - I've just ordered another batch of different styles to start on a new set of paintings!

Three of the originals ('The Wallflower', ''Pursuit of happiness' and 'Do You Ever Wonder?') have sold to a really lovely art collector that I met whilst I was putting the work up, so that's great! :) The exhibition runs for most of the summer, so as soon as I get some good photos of the remaining available paintings, I'll be listing them for sale in my Etsy shop.
